Therapy for Children and Teens
Find support with therapy and skill-building designed for children and teens to help navigate school stress, emotional regulation, and social confidence.
“Supporting a child or teen means looking at the whole picture – their brain, their emotions, and their daily environment. We help young people build the biological and practical tools they need to navigate a changing world with confidence.”
Navigating the Pressures of Growing Up
Today’s children and teens face a unique set of challenges that can often lead to a sense of being overwhelmed or misunderstood. Whether it is school-related challenges, anxiety, or difficulty managing emotions, we understand the specific hurdles young people face in Ottawa, Pembroke, and North Bay. Common pain points include:
Academic and Focus Struggles: Feeling “behind” or frustrated due to neurodiversity, learning differences, or executive function hurdles that make school feel like an uphill battle.
Anxiety and Social Stress: Navigating the pressures of social media, peer groups, and school performance while feeling constantly on edge.
Emotional Regulation Issues: Frequent outbursts, “shutting down,” or mood swings that leave the child and the family feeling exhausted.
Developmental Transitions: Struggling to gain the independence needed for the shift from childhood to adolescence or the move into young adulthood.
Our Integrated Approach
At Renew Neurotherapy, we don’t just talk about the problem.
We provide the tools to navigate it and move forward.
We move beyond just talking. For children and teens, a successful plan must address how their brain processes stress and how they manage their daily tasks.
-
Psychotherapy
We provide a safe, engaging space where children and teens can explore their feelings and build resilience. Our therapists use age-appropriate tools to help young people understand their emotions, build social confidence, and develop healthy coping strategies for the long term.
-
Occupational Therapy
Our Occupational Therapists focus on the practical "doing" of childhood and adolescence. We help students develop executive function skills (like time management, organization) and sensory regulation, and daily life skills and routines, so they can handle the demands of school and daily life with less frustration.
-
Neurofeedback Training
We use non-invasive, learning-based brain training to help young brains find their "calm center." By stabilizing brainwave patterns, we can help reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety, improve the focus needed for school, and help the nervous system move out of a constant "fight or flight" state.
Frequently Asked Questions
If your child seems to understand what they “should” do but can’t seem to actually do it, or if they are too overwhelmed to engage in conversation, an integrated approach can help. Depending on what your child needs, we may address the biological regulation first so that the emotional and thinking-based work becomes possible.
Yes. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, learning-based, medication-free process that simply provides the brain with information about its own activity. It is often compared to “exercise for the brain” and is used to help improve regulation in children of all ages.
Yes. Our Occupational Therapy team specifically targets the executive function skills that students need to succeed, while Neurofeedback can help sharpen focus and reduce the impulsivity often associated with ADHD.
We believe parents are an essential part of the team. While we provide a private space for teens to build trust, we also provide parents with strategies and tools to support their child’s growth and maintain a calm environment at home.
Yes. We offer in-person care in Ottawa, Pembroke, and North Bay, but we also provide Virtual Therapy across Ontario. This allows kids and teens to receive support in a way that fits their academic and extracurricular schedules.
